Scone Palace Excursion

The Scottish would pronounce the name of this castle like “skoon.”

We were greeted at the gate by a peacock. Time was short so I didn’t wait for a showy tail picture. This is an old castle and the family still lives inside so we couldn’t take pictures of the rooms inside the castle.

https://www.scone-palace.co.uk/plan-your-visit  is a website that will show you some pictures of some of the rooms we did visit. Guess what favorite show of mine has filmed there???

The Great British Baking Show! Now to rewatch the series and spot the scenes. There is a picture of Mary Berry on one of the pianos. 😁 [update - season 1 episode 2 was filmed here at Scone].

“Vintage doorbell”

You need to read the sign here. The Lords brought dirt in their boots and piled it here.

Here is information about the Stone of Scone. Basically, they aren’t sure where it originated but it was used as a seat for the king’s crowning. It has been stolen and “recovered” but they aren’t sure if it is the original stone and is still a mystery today.

I did not take this picture (below). It is from their website. The stone is now mounted under a wooden seat at Westminster and all kings (and queens) sit on the wooden seat during their crowning ceremony.

We saw some kids trying to pull the sword out so I thought we would capture it in a picture. I am not sure what it represents as there was no signage. Seems like the sword in the stone from fairy tales.

The chapel on site was not open (or used anymore). It had “jail bars” so you could look in and see the interior. I shoved my camera through the grill of the gate and snapped a shot of the altar.

They had a few gardens and we walked to the kitchen garden. Along the path is this archway and it appears to be a popular spot to take wedding pictures. This castle can be rented for weddings and functions.

Growing at an angle. Would this work for other fruits and vegetables?
