Today it was a little cooler than the previous days and it looked like it might rain so a sweater and raincoat came along just in case. The port could not accommodate our ship so it is anchored out in the harbor and we had to use a tender to get to the dock. A new experience. Yeah!
Today was a 4 hour excursion to Grimaud and Port Grimaud and back to the ship in time for lunch. What a pretty town Grimaud is with tiny alleyways twisting every which way. It was a steep climb up to the remains of a castle. I made it half way and took pictures from that height. Gary made it all the way and took some wonderful pictures.
What was real nice was how inviting the area seemed yet very private. There were benches, sitting areas, and fountains everywhere encouraging you to sit and relax a while. A retirees place! You can keep in shape walking the inclines and have peace and quiet in a small village.
Next, we drove to Port Grimaud. The living quarters were developed on top of a swamp. Every house has a parking spot (slip) right in front of their house. Some homes have a parking space for their car but most everyone travels around by boat. We took a 45 minute electric boat ride around the neighborhood.
We visited a small church on Port Grimaud. It was unique in that it was a Catholic church and a Protestant church. You stepped down into the church which is unusual and the stained glass windows were circular balls rather than a picture or design. The light would shine through and create a playful effect on the floor of the church.

Then, there was time for shopping. I really wasn’t interested in shopping but since I left my sunglasses on the coach the day before, I looked for a new pair. We walked down to the beach and I put my hand in the water - it was cold. In the 1950s Brigitte Bardot was discovered here in Saint-Tropez. Today it is a playground for wealthy fashion models and millionaires.
The water in the harbor got a little rough so our tender ride back to the ship was a bit rough. Even had water come in the front window. The bad part was transferring from the tender to the ship. It took 4 crew members to help each person off the tender and on to the ship. They would call out “No, no, no, not yet!” Then, “Okay now JUMP.” It calmed down a little when it was our turn. Exciting. 😯
Around 5 pm we were given the news that the weather was going to change our course. It was too dangerous for the ship to dock in our next 2 ports due to the high winds and swells expected this evening and tomorrow. By the time we got the printed memo and new excursion choices, the most exciting option was full. It was cooking in a restaurant and eating lunch there. Oh well, I guess we will be on our own and just meander around town
Finally, we stayed up late enough to attend a show. He was a singer and comedian from Wales. We enjoyed his show a lot.
