I took so many pictures here at the cathedral but I’ll only show you a few here. The top picture is from the back of the cathedral looking up to the altar. It is longer than it looks here. Mass is offered in Spanish. We listened to a personal audio tour but I can’t remember a lot of it. So much history. The second picture is of a pipe organ. My father-in-law loved old pipe organs so I am naturally drawn to take pictures “for him”. The last picture here is the ceiling but I am not sure which area of the cathedral I took this picture. There are so many small altar areas as well as the big church area.
Up on top of the four columns surrounding the altar are statues of the 4 Gospel writers: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Help me identify who is who, please.
The rose window has a Star of David inside it representing Jesus’ Jewish heritage.
The item in the bottom picture is used to parade the Eucharistic host during certain times of the year and also is use during Adoration time.
It is believed that the Holy Chalice of Valencia was used at the Last Supper by Jesus. To date, there is no evidence to counter this.
The top picture is a statue of Mary holding her son, Jesus. In the middle picture there are five statues of the apostles. Only John is easily identified as he is the beardless apostle. With the hands missing, the identifying parts are also missing. The bottom sculpture is Mary with 11 of the apostles after Mary died and she assumed to Heaven.
